“Your institute must give Jesus Christ to the world with the Church, in the Church, and from the Church. For you this constitutes the principal mission.”
--Blessed James Alberione, Founder
In 1932 Mother Paula and two other Italian sisters stepped off the boat in New York in the midst of the Depression with 25 cents in their pocket. (They had sent back the money they had been provided for beginning the new foundation in the U.S. because they knew the needs of sisters at the Motherhouse were also great. Thus began a tradition in the U.S. province of giving back.)
Through the years the Daughters of St. Paul have grown from the first community in their apartment in the Bronx to Derby, New York, to Boston where they eventually established their novitiate, to Pennsylvania, California, Florida, Chicago, Virginia, New Jersey, Louisiana, Missouri, and Ohio.
True to the path traced by their Founder, Blessed James Alberione, they have found always new avenues for people to find God wherever they are through books which they have written and published, music, radio programs, DVDs, websites, and now digital publishing. As apostles, like St. Paul, they burn with the desire to announce the Gospel.
New young women embrace the Pauline religious life each year, totally dedicating themselves to becoming Christ in order to give Christ to the world.
A Gift for Today
Blessed James Alberione said the Pauline mission would require an immense outlay for publishing, radio productions, music recordings, PaulineCenters of diffusion, computer systems and electronic equipment, websites, the new forms of digital publishing, and other “tools of the trade.” However, he also knew that many people would understand the vital necessity of reaching the soul of society and the heart of each person with the Gospel through the powerful means of communication, offering Jesus as the way to life and the truth that alone brings happiness, making the Gospel understandable through the languages of the mass media. Through the years people have generously partnered with the Pauline mission through their gifts supporting apostolic initiatives and community needs both in the U.S. and abroad.
